An innovative energy technology has evolved from composting practices, ANAEROBIC DIGESTION (breakdown of organics in an oxygen-free environment) is being used to produce methane gas.  The methane can then be burned to produce energy!  A household anaerobic digester can accept all organic wastes (including raw sewage).  It converts the wastes to high grade compost, and produces enough methane gas to supply 70% of the energy needs of that household!
