ISU Geology Field Camp - Lost River Field Station

Idaho State University, Department of Geosciences

What advice would you give to students attending next year?

•  Intense, but prepared you for the real world.

•  I’d tell them to be ready to have their asses handed to them. I know it’s not supposed to be easy, but it should be realistic.

•  Be happy & enjoy all of your experiences, no matter how tired and cranky you are.

•  Be prepared to work hard and not complain about it. Your feet and knees will hurt.

•  Bring own tenttent

•  If you have issues getting along with people and learning (especially from other students) don’t come!

•  To take it easy and have fun.

•  Be prepared to work hard and meet high expectations. Don’t come if you need a lot of sleep. Be ready to hike a lot, get wet, cold, hot and everything in between. It’s a blast and you’ll learn a lot about geology and even more about yourself.

•  Party more, sleep more, be less careful with maps, don’t be afraid to get wet. Also bug spray is essential.

•  Be ready to stay up all night several nights to finish your work! (and ready to hike all day the next day)

•  Be prepared for cold, and be ready to be challenged. Don’t worry about grades though, everything works out (don’t slack though)

•  Bring the comforts of home.

•  Be prepared for an intense, but wonderful experience.camp

•  Exercise and bring lots of pencils.

•  Be in shape & come thinking that field camp is basically your whole education (geology) because it is.

•  Gaiters! Patience !

•  If hiking 6 -10 hrs a day, six days a week, for five weeks does not sound fun, this is not the field camp for you.

•  Be in shape! Never give up. Before you know it you're finished.

•  Get into shape. Break in your boots. Bring bug spray & sunscreen and take care of your feet.

•  Have a blast! Yet, be serious.

•  Get your ass is in shape! If you have health problems; go somewhere else !

•  Get in shape! Or else you will hold the group back.
